“Dynamite’ cannot be stopped! Its record after record and we are not getting tired of it! RM, J-Hope, Jin, Jungkook, Jimin, Suga and V have taught us to love ourselves and enjoy music because it is beautiful music. “The release of Dynamite wasn’t in our plans at all” RM said at an online press conference “As soon as we heard it, we thought it was really fun and exciting, fun and cherry song that wasn’t that serious. It just made us feel good when we heard it. We really wanted to share this energy with the fans as soon as possible”
In a dazzling continuation of their global chart dominance, BTS’ record-breaking single “Dynamite” has held firm at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row, solidifying the group’s status as a musical force to be reckoned with across international markets. The achievement makes BTS the first all-South Korean act to earn multiple weeks atop the prestigious chart, a feat that cements their legacy in pop history.
“Dynamite,” an energetic, retro-themed disco-pop anthem sung entirely in English, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated September 5, 2020, and its continued success into the following week speaks volumes of BTS’ immense global appeal and the devotion of their fanbase, known affectionately as ARMY. The song, released on August 21, marked a historic milestone for the group as it became their first No. 1 on the Hot 100, a position previously unattained by any other Korean act.
With “Dynamite” holding strong at the top spot, BTS has now accomplished what few international artists have managed: dominating the American music market without compromising their cultural roots. The track’s upbeat energy, nostalgic soundscape, and feel-good lyrics have resonated with a global audience during a time of collective need for joy and escapism.
Billboard reported that in its second week, “Dynamite” garnered over 17.5 million U.S. streams and 182,000 downloads sold, while also accumulating over 16 million radio airplay impressions, reflecting the song’s crossover appeal and ever-expanding listenership. The numbers are a testament not only to BTS’ star power but also to the well-executed strategy behind the release.
Behind every BTS success story is the unwavering support of ARMY, the group’s worldwide fanbase that continues to push the boundaries of what fan engagement can accomplish. Social media campaigns, coordinated streaming efforts, and organized buying parties across countries contributed to the song’s initial debut and ongoing dominance. In the week following the release, ARMY launched a number of initiatives to maintain the song’s momentum, including playlists, purchase guides, and time-zoned streaming events, ensuring maximum impact across platforms.
Additionally, BTS and their team at BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE) meticulously planned the rollout of “Dynamite” to maximize exposure. Teaser photos and video snippets built anticipation, while the official music video premiered via YouTube to a record-breaking live audience, racking up over 100 million views in just 24 hours. The group followed up with energetic televised performances, including a high-profile slot at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), where they performed “Dynamite” for the first time.
Although BTS has long been praised for their Korean-language discography, “Dynamite” represents a notable shift—it is the first single sung entirely in English. The group has explained in interviews that the decision to release a fully English song stemmed from a desire to lift fans’ spirits during the pandemic. RM, BTS’ leader, described “Dynamite” as a “new challenge,” noting that the song was an opportunity to reach an even wider audience and connect during uncertain times.
Despite the language change, BTS maintained their identity, flair, and emotional resonance. The group’s personalities shine through in the track and its vibrant music video, which is filled with nostalgic nods to pop culture and pure, unfiltered fun.
“Dynamite” has not only topped U.S. charts but has also achieved massive success across the globe. The track charted at No. 1 on iTunes in over 100 countries, topped Spotify’s Global Top 50, and achieved massive numbers in the UK, Japan, and other major music markets. It has also become a mainstay on TikTok and other social media platforms, where its catchy chorus and dynamic choreography have inspired countless covers and challenges.
Beyond the numbers, “Dynamite” has ushered in a cultural moment—one where a non-Western act has become the face of pop music on the world’s largest stage. BTS’ win challenges long-held industry norms and opens doors for other international artists seeking mainstream success in English-speaking markets.
Music critics have praised “Dynamite” not only for its infectious energy but also for its well-produced sound and sleek delivery. Rolling Stone lauded the track as “pure pop perfection,” while Variety called it “an effervescent blast of summer.”
As BTS celebrates this historic two-week reign atop the Hot 100, the future looks brighter than ever for the group. They have announced the upcoming release of a new album later in the year, which will reportedly include more self-composed songs and diverse sounds. Given the astronomical success of “Dynamite,” industry insiders are already predicting a strong Grammy campaign and potential nominations.
Furthermore, BTS has continued their philanthropic efforts, recently joining hands with UNICEF to promote their anti-violence “Love Myself” campaign, and making generous donations to causes such as COVID-19 relief and the Black Lives Matter movement. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, earning them praise for their social consciousness as well as their musical prowess.
At its core, “Dynamite” is more than just a song—it’s a cultural phenomenon. In a year marked by uncertainty, loss, and isolation, BTS delivered a burst of color and happiness that transcended borders, languages, and cultural boundaries. By holding onto the No. 1 spot for two consecutive weeks, the group has proven that their artistry, dedication, and connection with fans can not only break records—but reshape the music industry itself. As ARMY celebrates this achievement and the world continues to dance to the beat of “Dynamite,” one thing is clear: BTS is not just riding a wave—they’re creating one.
And we are so glad BTS shared that feel good song that has turned the entire music and non music world into a disco bopping, retro feeling happy kind of mood. We cannot forget how ‘Dynamite’ started with the highest views in a premier, then came the highest number of views in 24 hours, then came fastest song to hit 109 no1′ on iTunes, then the most liked MV with 17 million likes, recently it became the most commented MV of all time in YouTube history, last week it charted number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100..
And now, for the second week in a row BTS ‘Dynamite’ is still at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100! The chart ranks the most popular songs in the USA across all genres based on streaming, radio airplay and sales data.
According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, “Dynamite” earned 16 million radio airplay, and 182,000 downloads sold in the week ending September 3rd 2020. “Dynamite” is the first song to have sold over 180,000 downloads in consecutive weeks in nearly four years since The Chain Smokers “Closer” featuring Halsey in September 2016. “Dynamite” is also the first song to have sold over 180,000 downloads in its first two weeks of release since Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” in May/June 2016.
