In anticipation to the release of their Album “BE”, BTS wrote letters to ARMY and asked their fans to promise to write back and ARMY is writing their hearts out by trending #TO_BTS on Twitter
Dear. ARMY,
“The weather’s gotten a lot chilly. I’m writing this because I wanted to know what ARMY’s thinking and what you’ve been up to lately. Promise to write me back?”
Sincerely,
BTS
In the beautiful story of BTS and their fanbase, ARMY, there are countless moments that define the unique bond they share. One such moment came in the lead-up to the release of BTS’s much-anticipated album “BE.” Amidst a global pandemic and emotional uncertainty, BTS did what they always do, they reached out to their fans with sincerity, warmth, and vulnerability. In anticipation of “BE,” the members penned heartfelt letters to ARMY, pouring their thoughts, worries, and hopes onto paper. In return, they asked for one simple promise: “Write back to us.”
ARMY, ever loyal and deeply connected, responded in the most beautiful way possible, by trending the hashtag #TO_BTS on Twitter and filling it with thousands of touching letters, messages, photos, and videos. It became a digital archive of love, a powerful reminder of the unbreakable connection between artists and fans, especially in a time when the world felt distant and uncertain.
BTS’s decision to write letters to ARMY wasn’t just a promotional strategy for “BE”, it was an emotional lifeline. The group, known for their deep introspection and emotional honesty, took the time to share their gratitude, self-reflection, and hope, all of which were embedded in the DNA of “BE”, an album created in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each member opened their heart in his own way.
But what made these letters even more special was the request that followed: they asked ARMY to promise to write back.
When BTS asks, ARMY listens, and delivers with love. Soon after the letters were shared, Twitter was flooded with heartfelt messages under the hashtag #TO_BTS. From simple “thank you”s to long, soul-baring letters, ARMYs from all over the world wrote back. Some fans shared how BTS had helped them through depression, loneliness, and anxiety, especially during the pandemic. Others recounted memories from concerts, fan meetings, or first times hearing a BTS song that changed their lives. Many spoke about how BTS’s messages of self-love and perseverance had given them the strength to keep going.
There were letters in countless languages, reminding the world that BTS isn’t just a Korean pop group, they’re a global emotional support system. From teenagers to adults, from casual listeners to lifelong stans, everyone had something to say to BTS. Some letters read like poetry. Others were filled with doodles, song lyrics, or even video montages. But every single one had something in common, an overwhelming sense of gratitude.
Unlike the often-one-sided relationships that exist between artists and fans, BTS and ARMY’s bond has always been a two-way street. BTS not only create content, but they also communicate, share, and include ARMY in the creative process. Whether it’s behind-the-scenes logs, VLive sessions, or the thoughtful inclusion of fan emotions in their songwriting, BTS constantly lets ARMY know: You matter.
The “BE” era was particularly intimate. The group was involved in every aspect of the album’s production, from the songwriting and composition to visual direction and concept. And they made sure ARMY was right there with them, emotionally invested and creatively connected. The letters before “BE” were not just a way to bridge the physical distance caused by the pandemic, they were a way to hold hands, across screens and time zones.
The entire “BE” project, from the handwritten letters to the reflective lyrics of the album, emphasized healing. For many ARMYs, writing back to BTS under #TO_BTS became a healing process in itself. In expressing their love and gratitude, fans were also acknowledging their own growth, pain, and perseverance. As BTS continues to create, and as ARMY continues to support, this moment will remain a shining example of what happens when love is mutual, when words carry weight, and when a promise to “write back” becomes a global phenomenon.
In a past intimate talk between BTS members, SUGA suggested the idea of handwritten letters, which seems to be the theory as to why BTS are writing letters and requesting ARMY to write back.
On Weverse, postcards from members V, Jimin, and RM were shared along with the message: “ARMY, please send your reply to BTS members with the hashtag #TO_BTS on Twitter!”
