BTS’s Jin, Suga, RM, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook are trend setters in the fashion world. They have a Midas touch when it comes to anything they lay their hands on. All the members are known to sell out items, clothes and even products that they are associated with. Whether it is a designer item or regular items, they usually disappear in minutes.
A while back J-Hope took selcas with a Map of the soul ON:E merchandise and it was sold within minutes. BTS’s showed up at their Map of the Soul pop up store in Seoul and one fan noticed Suga’s shoes. Trust ARMY to notice every little detail of the Bangtan boys.
Max was right when he said in an interview with MTV that ARMY is CIA! The shoes that Suga was wearing were Vans and it turs out they are a limited “Love Pack” edition by Vans that were designed for the LGBQ pride month. The shoes are designed with the word LOVE is written in different languages. Whether intended or not, fans are completely loving the statement the Vans shoes are making.
BTS has consistently shown subtle yet impactful support for the LGBTQ+ community through their music, public statements, and actions, helping to foster a message of inclusivity, love, and self-acceptance.
One of the most notable ways BTS has supported LGBTQ+ rights is through their lyrics. Songs like “Born Singer,” “Epiphany,” “Answer: Love Myself,” and “Persona” center on themes of identity, self-love, and accepting others. These messages resonate deeply with LGBTQ+ fans, many of whom find comfort and strength in BTS’s emphasis on embracing one’s true self.
Leader RM has made several statements and gestures that LGBTQ+ fans have interpreted as supportive. He once recommended the song “Same Love” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, which advocates for marriage equality. RM tweeted about the track in 2013, saying, “This is the kind of hip hop I like. This song is about gay marriage. I support it.” Such statements were especially meaningful coming from a Korean idol, given South Korea’s traditionally conservative stance on LGBTQ+ issues.
Jungkook, too, has been spotted wearing LGBTQ+ ally merchandise, including a “LOVE” t-shirt from the brand WACKO MARIA, often associated with pride and inclusivity. Other members have worn pride-associated fashion or referenced queer-friendly literature, such as RM reading books like “The Midnight Library” and “Blue Is the Warmest Color.”
Moreover, BTS’s overall message of loving oneself, amplified by their Love Myself campaign in partnership with UNICEF, indirectly supports LGBTQ+ people around the world who struggle with self-acceptance due to societal pressures or discrimination.
Though BTS has not made explicit political statements about LGBTQ+ rights (likely due to restrictions in South Korea’s entertainment industry), their consistent messaging of inclusivity, love, and mental health awareness continues to make a meaningful impact on LGBTQ+ fans globally.
