BTS performed on at this year’s MMA Awards and it was epic! The fashion and style brought the whole song to life. They looked like they came from an alternate futuristic universe. Jin, Jungkook and Jimin blessed ARMY with their breathtaking foreheads, add that to Jungkook’s side cut and it was clear that the boys did not come to play. RM and J-Hope showed off some intricate tattoos that had meanings. The performance started off with the scene from their music video “NO” and it was perfect that they left a space for Suga who is recovering from a shoulder surgery back in November. Definitely their best “ON” performance yet!

At the 2020 Melon Music Awards (MMA), held virtually from December 2 to 5 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, BTS delivered a series of captivating performances that showcased their artistic versatility and stage presence. Among these, their rendition of “ON” stood out as a powerful display of energy and precision, reflecting the song’s themes of resilience and determination.

BTS’s setlist for the evening was a testament to their dynamic range and commitment to delivering high-quality performances, even in a virtual format. They performed four songs:

  1. “Black Swan”: An orchestral version that highlighted their interpretative dance skills.
  2. “ON”: A high-energy performance that underscored their dynamic choreography.
  3. “Life Goes On”: A poignant delivery reflecting the global sentiment during the pandemic.
  4. “Dynamite”: Their record-breaking English-language hit that brought an upbeat conclusion to their set.

Each performance was meticulously crafted, blending intricate choreography with emotive storytelling. The “ON” segment, in particular, received acclaim for its powerful execution and the group’s unwavering synchronization.

Notably, member Suga was absent from the live performances as he was recuperating from shoulder surgery. To honor his presence, BTS ingeniously incorporated a pre-recorded video of Suga during the “Life Goes On” performance. This thoughtful inclusion resonated deeply with fans, symbolizing the group’s unity and commitment to each other.

The “ON” performance was particularly evocative. Dancers, painted to resemble statues, created a visual metaphor for a world paused by the pandemic. As the song progressed, these figures gradually came to life, mirroring the song’s message of resilience and hope. This artistic choice effectively conveyed the collective yearning for normalcy and the enduring human spirit.

BTS’s performances at the MMA 2020 were met with widespread acclaim, further solidifying their status as global music icons. Their ability to deliver such impactful performances, even in a virtual format, demonstrated their adaptability and dedication to their craft. The event also highlighted BTS’s role in providing comfort and inspiration during unprecedented times.
