Every BTS ARMY has a unique entry point into the world of Bangtan Sonyeondan, maybe it was a music video that caught your eye, a heartfelt speech that tugged at your soul, or a variety show clip that made you laugh uncontrollably. But no matter how someone joined, there’s one universal experience that unites every Baby ARMY (new fan): the initial confusion about the members.

One of the most common confessions among Baby ARMYs is mixing up who is who, especially during those early days of discovery. A frequently mentioned mix-up is between Jin and Jimin. The similarity in their names can trip up even the most attentive fans. Jin, whose full name is Kim Seokjin, and Jimin, Park Jimin, share not only a syllable in their stage names but also possess similar soft features and radiant visuals, especially in their earlier debut days.

Add to that their shared warmth, kind personalities, and affection toward the younger members, and it’s easy to see why people would get their names mixed up before diving deeper into their personalities and roles.

However, the most relatable and common source of confusion comes with BTS’s beloved member V. For many Baby ARMYs, the question was simple yet maddening: Who is V? And… Who is Taehyung? Are they two different people?

It’s not a silly question. Many fans, especially those introduced to BTS through interviews or performances, would consistently hear him introduce himself as “V.” The name was catchy, mysterious, and simple. But then, after watching a few episodes of “Run BTS” or some behind-the-scenes clips, the same person would suddenly be addressed by the other members as “Taehyung.” Cue the confusion.

It’s a perfectly reasonable moment of panic, Wait, is V someone else? Who’s this Taehyung they keep talking about? Why does he look exactly like V? Are they twins? The realization that V is Taehyung and Taehyung is V usually hits like a truck, but in a good way.

V is, of course, the stage name of Kim Taehyung, the vocalist known for his deep voice, soulful eyes, and charismatic duality. He is both whimsical and mysterious, goofy yet strikingly handsome. The confusion comes from the fact that he’s one of the few BTS members who uses a stage name that’s completely different from his real name. While Jungkook is always Jungkook, and Jimin is Jimin, V switches between his stage name and his real name depending on the setting, formal settings, he’s often “V”; casual settings with the members, he’s “Taehyung” or “Tae.”

It’s actually endearing to look back at those moments of confusion. Many seasoned ARMYs now laugh at their earlier days, recalling how they had to Google “Are V and Taehyung the same person?” or watch countless member introduction videos to finally understand the differences. It becomes part of the fan journey, a rite of passage, if you will.

In hindsight, these initial misunderstandings are part of the charm of becoming ARMY. It reflects the process of slowly getting to know each member not just by name, but by personality, quirks, expressions, and talents. That’s how the connection deepens. One day you’re confused about who’s who, and the next you can identify them just by a laugh or a silhouette.

To all the Baby ARMYs still learning: you’re doing great. Confusing names and faces in the beginning is normal. What matters is that you’re curious, open, and ready to learn more. Soon enough, you’ll know every lyric, every nickname, every birth date, and you’ll be the one helping new fans understand who V really is.

And yes, we all Googled it once too. 💜
