Today marks two years since “Intro: Persona” was released!

The video references various visuals and sounds from their “Skool Luv Affair” concept they had in 2014. Throughout it RM can be seen rapping in an empty classroom and addressing a squadron of cyborgs.RM is confronted with various versions of himself with words such as “persona,” “shadow,” and “ego” which references Carl Jung’s theories of psychology. In the song he rapped, “My shadow, I wrote and called it ‘hesitation.'” According to Jung’s theories, a “shadow” represents the dark side of one’s personality.

Released on February 21, 2020, this album marked a significant milestone in BTS’s career, delving deep into themes of self-exploration and identity. “Intro: Persona” serves as the opening track, setting the tone for the introspective journey that unfolds throughout the album.

“Intro: Persona” is a compelling exploration of self-identity, with RM confronting the question, “Who am I?” The lyrics delve into the complexities of personal growth, fame, and the masks individuals wear in society. RM’s introspective verses resonate with listeners, as he navigates the dichotomy between his public persona and inner self. This track not only showcases RM’s lyrical prowess but also invites fans to reflect on their own identities and the roles they play in their lives.

Musically, “Intro: Persona” blends elements of hip-hop with dynamic instrumentals, creating an energetic yet thought-provoking atmosphere. The song’s production complements its lyrical depth, emphasizing the internal conflict and self-questioning that define the track. RM’s delivery is both powerful and vulnerable, capturing the essence of the human experience in the face of societal expectations.

The release of Map of the Soul: 7 was met with critical acclaim, with “Intro: Persona” being highlighted for its raw honesty and philosophical depth. The album’s exploration of Jungian psychology, particularly the concept of the persona, adds layers of meaning to the track. By addressing the tension between one’s true self and the facade presented to the world, RM offers a universal message that transcends cultural and linguistic barriers.

RM appears to start rapping from the perspective of his shadow, telling his flaws over the beat of a guitar. But RM also finds power in reclaiming these insecurities.

RM wears a jacket that has emblemed on it, “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain,” which could reference Jung’s teachings about having two versions of oneself: the person who everyone sees, and the person behind the curtain that is hidden.

The video reached five million views in seven hours. The song was performed for the first time at the 2019 Melon Music Awards on November 30, 2019
