BTS RM’s 2018 mixtape “mono” has reached #1 on the Dominica iTunes Album Sales Chart. With its latest #1, “mono” has now topped the iTunes album chart in 121 countries. The Mixtape had previously shared the record of 120 #1 iTunes with Ed Sheeran’s album “Divide” RM now holds the title of highest charting artist in the history.
RM’s mono. is a deeply introspective and emotionally raw mixtape that showcases a different side of the BTS leader, far removed from the spotlight and intensity of global fame. Released on October 23, 2018, mono. is described by RM himself as a “playlist” rather than a traditional album, reflecting the personal and reflective nature of the tracks.
From the opening ambient notes of “tokyo” to the poignant farewell of “forever rain,” the album paints a vivid portrait of solitude, melancholy, and quiet resilience. Each song carries a sense of wandering, as though RM is inviting listeners to walk beside him through moments of self-doubt, longing, and stillness.
One of the most remarkable aspects of mono. is its lyrical vulnerability. RM contemplates identity, loneliness, and the pressures of life, all with a poetic honesty that feels both intimate and universal. Tracks like “seoul” (produced with HONNE) express a love-hate relationship with the city he calls home, while “moonchild” speaks to those who feel most alive in the darkness.
“everythingoes” carries a message of hope through pain, reminding listeners that all things, good or bad, eventually pass. The simplicity in production, often minimalist, with soft synths and gentle beats, allows RM’s voice and words to take center stage, creating an atmosphere that is both soothing and emotionally stirring.
More than just a collection of songs, mono. feels like a companion for quiet nights and reflective mornings. It’s an album that doesn’t try to impress—it simply is, existing in the space between heartbeats, comforting listeners who may be going through their own silent battles. RM’s sincerity, both in his lyrics and delivery, makes mono. a timeless work that continues to touch fans long after its release. It’s a testament to his artistry not just as a rapper and leader, but as a human being navigating the complexities of life with gentleness and grace.
