BTS’ “Permission to Dance” has officially surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify, marking yet another incredible milestone in the group’s already record-breaking career. What makes this achievement even more special is that it reached the 100 million stream mark in just 14 days, making it the second fastest BTS song to do so right behind “Butter,” which accomplished the feat in 8 days, and just ahead of “Dynamite,” which hit 100 million in 15 days.

With this milestone, BTS becomes the first group in Spotify history to have 70 songs with over 100 million streams each, showcasing their consistency, versatility, and unmatched global influence. From soulful ballads and explosive pop anthems to introspective solos and energetic dance tracks, BTS’ discography continues to break records while resonating with millions of listeners around the world.

“Permission to Dance,” released on July 9, 2021, was a bright, uplifting single dedicated to ARMY in celebration of BTS ARMY Day. The song was co-written by global superstar Ed Sheeran, along with Steve Mac, Johnny McDaid, and Jenna Andrews, and it radiates hope, freedom, and the simple joy of being alive. With lyrics like “We don’t need permission to dance,” the track encourages people everywhere to break free from life’s worries, even just for a moment, and enjoy the present.

The song’s infectious melody, positive message, and colorful music video quickly caught the attention of fans and casual listeners alike. Within hours of its release, “Permission to Dance” had already started topping charts globally. In its first 24 hours, it racked up over 68 million views on YouTube, eventually surpassing 100 million views with over 10 million likes and 2.6 million comments. It also debuted at #1 on iTunes Worldwide, including in the U.S., Europe, and over 90 other countries, dethroning several major tracks to claim the top spot on the U.S. iTunes Song Sales Chart.

BTS took the promotion of “Permission to Dance” to joyful new heights with a variety of fun and interactive events. They participated in “The Permission to Dance Balance Game,” where the members had to choose between two options by physically walking toward their preferred answer resulting in lots of laughs and surprising insights into each member’s personality. They also gifted ARMY a playlist featuring emotional and personal solo tracks like “Snow Flower” by V, “Still With You” by Jungkook, “Bicycle” by RM, “Abyss” by Jin, “Hope World” by J-Hope, “People” by Agust D (SUGA), and “Filter” by Jimin.

On top of that, BTS scheduled multiple live events and performances to celebrate the song’s release, including “Butterful Getaway,” a special talk and performance show, and their first-ever U.S. performance of “Permission to Dance” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during their two-night appearance on July 13 and 14. They also held online events on NAVER NOW and the HYBE LABELS YouTube channel on release day.

But one of the most powerful and inclusive aspects of “Permission to Dance” was its use of international sign language in the choreography. As July is Disability Pride Month, BTS made a heartfelt effort to ensure their music could reach and include everyone adding the hearing aid emoji to their official Twitter bio and incorporating simple, graceful sign language gestures into the song’s choreography. This was a meaningful gesture of visibility and support for the Deaf and hard of hearing community, showing that BTS is committed to using their platform not only to entertain, but also to inspire and uplift everyone, regardless of background or ability.

From the moment it dropped, “Permission to Dance” was more than just a summer anthem it was a reminder of BTS’ unwavering connection with their fans, and their continued desire to bring light to the world through music. The streaming numbers are just one part of the story. With every milestone it achieves whether on Spotify, YouTube, or the charts, “Permission to Dance” cements its place as one of BTS’ most meaningful and joy-filled releases. As BTS continues to shatter records and redefine what it means to be a global artist, “Permission to Dance” stands as a testament to their artistry, their heart, and their ability to unite millions around the world with the simple message that we don’t need permission to dance.

CONGRATULATIONS BTS!
