“We’re bulletproof” — but even the world’s biggest boy band had to pause.
For over two and a half years, the music world has waited patiently as BTS fulfilled their mandatory military service. And now, the wait is nearly over. BigHit Music has officially confirmed that SUGA (Min Yoongi) is the last of the seven members still enlisted. He will be discharged from his alternative military service on June 21, 2025. But fans might expect grand farewells and tearful airport reunions. However, BigHit has issued a heartfelt and cautious statement. No special events will take place on the day of his return.
Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming milestone. Discover details about the quiet reunion. Learn what this means for BTS and ARMY alike.
On June 18, BigHit Music took to Weverse to share a note regarding SUGA’s discharge:
“SUGA is close to completing his service as a social service agent and will soon be discharged. Please note that no special events are planned on the day of his discharge.”
The agency emphasized the importance of fan safety and discouraged gatherings at the site of his discharge, noting:
“Overcrowding can pose safety risks, and we sincerely request our fans not to visit the sites in person. Please convey your warm regards and encouragement in your hearts.”
BigHit concluded the message by thanking fans for their continued support and reaffirmed their commitment to BTS and their artistry.
To understand the magnitude of this moment, we need to rewind.
- Jin was the first to enlist, entering the military in December 2022 and completing his service in June 2024.
- j-hope followed shortly after, enlisting in April 2023 and returning in October 2024.
- RM, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook began their service in December 2023 and were discharged just last week. RM and V on June 2025, Jimin and Jung Kook on June 2025.
- SUGA, who served as a social work personnel due to a shoulder injury, began his duty in September 2023.
His expected discharge on June 21 will mark the official reunion of BTS. This will be the first time the group is entirely together since their last performance in June 2022.
It’s no surprise that SUGA’s return is being handled without fanfare. Even his enlistment was not publicized. He was not going to the active military duty. This was due to his shoulder injury that led to a surgery. Those who have followed Yoongi over the years know that he is introspective and private by nature. Some artists thrive in flashy welcomes. However, SUGA has always chosen a quieter path. He focuses on music, artistry, and sincerity over spectacle. Fans won’t be lining up at military gates or airports. However, the support from ARMY across the globe is no less profound. Social media is already flooded with messages of love, admiration, and excitement for BTS’s complete return.
The seven members have slowly returned to public life over the past year. Each has completed their service one by one. In the meantime, they made brief appearances together, most notably at BTS’s 12th anniversary FESTA event held earlier this month. The celebratory gathering featured all six members, RM, Jin, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. They appeared together in front of fans. SUGA, still serving, attended but did not perform. Jin and Jungkook joined j-hope on stage, while the rest remained behind the scenes. That event marked the symbolic beginning of their long-awaited reunion.
While BigHit Music has not released details about BTS’s post-military plans, the possibilities are tantalizing:
- A comeback album to mark their return?
- A world tour, something ARMY around the globe has been dreaming of?
- Solo projects bolstered by their new perspectives and experiences?
Fans are eagerly awaiting a return. They anticipate not just BTS, but seven individuals who have grown. They have changed and evolved during their time apart.
BigHit’s request not to visit discharge sites is not just a formal statement,it’s a matter of real safety. In the past, BTS members’ public movements have led to massive crowding. Airports, military facilities, and concert venues have become flashpoints of both celebration and concern. By urging fans to celebrate from a distance, BigHit is protecting not only the members but ARMY, too. It’s a gentle reminder: BTS loves and trusts their fans. They trust them enough to ask for discretion. ARMY has always risen to that call.
The phrase “BTS is back” carries weight beyond music charts. It speaks to a generation that found connection, comfort, and courage through their work. For many fans, the last few years have been a quiet wait, but not an idle one. They’ve grown with BTS, explored solo albums like D-DAY, Indigo, FACE, Layover, and more. They’ve rallied around j-hope’s dance showcase, Jin’s emotional return, Jungkook’s global performances, and V’s jazzy reinvention.
Now, with SUGA completing his service, it’s time for a new chapter.
SUGA’s military discharge isn’t just about one man finishing his duty; it’s about seven artists coming home. The reunion of BTS is a moment of global resonance, a powerful symbol of endurance, transformation, and return. So when June 21 comes, there may not be confetti or a stage. But across countless living rooms, Twitter threads, Discord servers, and hearts, there will be celebration. Quiet, reverent, full of love. Exactly how SUGA would want it.
